Rebecca DeArmond-Huskey spent her childhood at Ozment Bluff on the Saline River in Drew County Arkansas. She attended Drew Central School and graduated from Dermott High School. After obtaining a master's degree in English from Memphis University she taught in private schools and colleges until she entered the field of oral history and historical research in 1977. In 1978 she returned to her birthplace to write Old Times Not Forgotten: A History of Drew County. Her second book, Beyond Bartholomew: The Portland Area History, came out in 1996.

The author began research for Bartholomew's Song in 1997 and after extensive research produced this book. Willard Gatewood, Alumni Distinguished Professor of History (Emeritus) at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville wrote, "To my knowledge this work is one of a kind, one that focuses on a topic that has received virtually no attention from other writers and historians."

Vitally interested in historic preservation and ecology as well as genealogy, the author has served as a member of the Arkansas History Commission and as a board member on the Arkansas Historic Preservation Review Board, Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas, and Arkansas Genealogy Society.

She resides at Ozment Bluff with her husband, Roy Wayne "Bimbo" Huskey, who has supported and endured her through the
research and writing of three books. She has a son, Dimitri DeWulf, and a grandson, Cade DeWulf.
